34 years ago TODAY, a big purple dinosaur turned “I love you” into a full preschool business model when "Barney & Friends" premiered on PBS in 1992!

Created by Sheryl Leach, the show took Barney from home-video dinosaur to PBS giant, with songs, hugs, and enough cheerful repetition to either calm your toddler or slowly break your older sibling. It ran 14 seasons and 268 episodes, and whether adults liked it or not, it became one of the defining kids’ shows of the ’90s.
