You get a two-week grace period where writing "2025" on your forms is still okay, but after that I will be judging. What channel did VH1 replace?

MTV shut down a bunch of its music channels at the end of 2025, but back in 1985, it was still aggressively expanding. The network launched VH1 on January 1, 1985, as a sister channel targeting an older audience that wanted softer pop instead of Twisted Sister. MTV's parent company scooped up the channel space from a competitor that had just crashed and burned after barely a month on the air. What channel did VH1 replace?

Retro Rewind: On This Day

50 years ago TODAY, NBC tried to get modern and go animal free and all it got them was a headache and a lawsuit when they debuted their big red-and-blue “N” logo in 1976!

The network shelved its peacock for a sharp, corporate “Big N” designed by Lippincott & Margulies, and even its own on-screen talent couldn't resist mocking it. Chevy Chase made fun of it on "Saturday Night Live," Johnny Carson laughed on "The Tonight Show," and Nebraska ETV Network filed a lawsuit for trademark infringement. They settled out of court and NBC got to keep its logo, but by 1979, the peacock was reintroduced and by 1986, the "Big N" was removed entirely.
