Whitney took a rock-tinged dance-pop track and sang it like a full '80s meltdown. The same duo behind Madonna’s "Like a Virgin" and Cyndi Lauper’s "True Colors" handed her another monster hook. When it hit number one on January 9, 1988, it became her sixth consecutive number one single, breaking Elvis Presley’s record for a solo artist and tying her with the Beatles and the Bee Gees for the most consecutive Hot 100 chart-toppers in a row at the time.
