Nerdy Trivia: June 25, 2025

The jump from black and white to color television must have felt like stepping into a completely different universe. Suddenly Dorothy wasn't the only one seeing Oz in full technicolor and everyone could watch shows pop off the screen in ways never imagined before. These days people complain when Netflix takes two seconds to load in 4K, but back then viewers probably spent hours just marveling at how green the grass looked on screen.

In the mid-1960s, networks were still trying to figure out how to handle the transition to color broadcasting at a time when most American families still had black and white screens. The transition was expensive, so old shows delayed the switch and new shows held off with plans to upgrade later if they became hits.
