Retro Rewind: On This Day

53 years ago TODAY, bar tops and bowling alleys got a new kind of glow when Pong started gobbling quarters in 1972! Atari rolled out the simple ball and paddle arcade cabinet and it turned out people would happily line up just to bounce a white square back and forth on a black screen. The early test machine in a California bar overflowed its coin box, word of mouth spread, and thousands of cabinets later Pong had launched Atari as a company.

When I was in college I had a very difficult professor who would do pushups in class and was in general just very scary to me. The one and only thing that got me through that class was pumping myself up for the final exam by putting on 1982's Rocky III and watching the training montage with "Eye of the Tiger" playing.
