Iggy Pop was a member of which band before going solo?

Iggy Pop fronted The Stooges after forming the group in 1967 with brothers Ron and Scott Asheton plus bassist Dave Alexander in a Michigan basement. The guy literally invented stage diving and would roll around in broken glass while the band cranked out three chords at ear-bleeding volume. Their first albums tanked so hard they got dropped from their label, but now music nerds worship those records like holy relics of proto-punk.
