Who was George Lucas' first choice to play Indiana Jones?

George Lucas didn't want to make a habit out of casting Harrison Ford as a leading man in his movies (looking at you, Scorsese and De Niro), so when Tom Selleck aced his screen test, he got the offer to play Indy. He had the charm, the grit, and a mustache that practically needed its own trailer. Unfortunately, CBS refused to release him from his "Magnum, P.I." contract, even though the show hadn't even started filming. Director Steven Spielberg pushed for Ford, Lucas finally gave in, and Ford was more than happy to throw on the fedora and whip for what became his second massive franchise.
