In "Full House," what was Uncle Jesse's original name?

The leather-clad musician we first met in 1987 was simply Jesse Cochran, rocking a decidedly non-Greek last name for the entire first season. John Stamos pushed for his character to embrace a Greek heritage like his own, turning Jesse into a Katsopolis in season 2 and eventually revealing in season 5 that our Elvis-loving uncle was actually born "Hermes" of all things.
