There is nothing like a cold beer after a long day of work. As humans, this is something that’s deeply ingrained in us.
The earliest evidence of humans brewing beer dates back 13,000 years to 8500 BC to 5500 BC, during the Pre-Pottery Neolithic in the Middle East during which they used gruel. By 3500–3100 BC, we figured out how to brew it using barley. And while there’s no definitive proof, some theorize it could have been brewed as far back as 10,000 BC when farmers first started producing types of cereal.
It’s clear that beer is literally part of our DNA. It’s just science. So it’s no surprise that there are some breweries out there who have been perfecting the art of brewing for a very, very long time. But where is the oldest brewery located?

But one brewery in Freising, Germany, is keeping some of the old-ish ways alive, still operating after first brewing as part of an abbey back in 768. It became an officially licensed brewery in 1040.
