48 years ago TODAY, "higher or lower" became the most loaded question on daytime TV when "Card Sharks" premiered in 1978!
Jim Perry hosted the original NBC run as contestants polled "100 married men" or "100 nurses" for control of the deck, then bet whether the next card would land higher or lower. The real tension came in the Money Cards bonus round, where one bad guess could wipe out a week of winnings. The original ran on NBC through 1981, returned as the Bob Eubanks CBS revival in 1986, and came back again on ABC with Joel McHale in 2019.
