56 years ago TODAY, Charlie Brown made his big-screen debut when “A Boy Named Charlie Brown” hit theaters in 1969!
The first feature-length “Peanuts” movie took him from the baseball field to a national spelling bee, with Linus, Lucy, Snoopy, and the rest of the gang trailing along. It kept the jazzy Vince Guaraldi sound, layered in new songs and trippy animation sequences, and proved Charles Schulz’s world could work in theaters, paving the way for “Snoopy, Come Home” and the other '70s "Peanuts" films. It even wound up as one of the year’s top-ten highest-grossing films!
