41 years ago TODAY, New York’s weirdest shift went to prime time when “Night Court” premiered on NBC in 1984!
The sitcom followed baby-faced Judge Harry Stone trying to keep order in a graveyard-shift municipal court packed with oddball defendants, sharp-tongued prosecutor Dan Fielding, and a rotating crew of public defenders and bailiffs who made the place feel more like a late-night circus than a courtroom. Its blend of slapstick, heart, and anything-goes cases turned it into one of NBC’s most beloved '80s workplace comedies and even paved the way for a revival decades later.
