Nerdy Trivia: May 15, 2025

Growing up, chocolate chips were in my pancakes, my muffins, my ice cream, and of course, my cookies (and let's be real, I still eat all of that junk food). But little morsels of chocolate weren't a pantry staple until after Ruth Wakefield at the Toll House Inn created her first batch of "Chocolate Crunch Cookies" in 1938. Thank god her experiment worked out because the thought of living in a world where cookie dough tubes only come in plain sugar or molasses feels like a cruel joke.

TV has no shortage of odd pairings (Oscar and Felix, Mork and Mindy, Lucy and Ethel, all of the Golden Girls). It's a trope as old as old as TV comedies themselves, but "Perfect Strangers" really pushed that idea pretty far. The '80's sitcom paired a simple American bachelor, Larry, with his distant (and I mean VERY distant) cousin, Balki, from the Mediterranean island of Mypos.
