21 years ago TODAY, Pixar put on its super suit when it released “The Incredibles” in theaters in 2004! Brad Bird’s retro-futurist family-of-supers story nailed that 60s spy-movie vibe, delivered one of Pixar’s best villains in Syndrome, and somehow made domestic life as exciting as giant robot battles. It won two Oscars, did huge at the box office, and came back 14 years later with “Incredibles 2” because everybody still wanted more Edna Mode, dahling.

Today a movie is basically a complete failure if it doesn't at least get close to a billion dollars at the box office. But back in the early '80s, even thinking of that kind of money made most people just pass out in the street.
