What year did DC introduce Poison Ivy?

Batman's rogues gallery is packed with weirdos, from a guy who's way too into riddles to a dude whose entire personality is "birds." But none of them quite compare to the queen of green herself, Poison Ivy. Seductive and deadly, she stands out as one of the Dark Knight's most complex foes. When did this botanical baddie first sprout up in Batman comics?

Poison Ivy made her first appearance in "Batman" #181 in June 1966 during the campy Batman TV era. Created by Robert Kanigher and Sheldon Moldoff, she was a response to the on-screen success of Catwoman and DC's desire for more female supervillains. The character was originally conceived as a seductive supervillain who used plant-based powers and her feminine wiles to commit crimes. Despite her success, it would take over 30 years for Ivy to finally appear on the big screen, played by Uma Thurman in 1997's "Batman & Robin."
