Which superhero team has the best-selling comic of all time?

Superhero teams have always been about more than just combining powers to fight bigger bad guys. When publishers nail the perfect combination of characters, storylines, and artwork, longtime fans will make sure they buy every variant cover. Suddenly, a single issue becomes five sales to the same person, and multiplied across millions of fans, it becomes the birth of a cultural phenomenon. Which superhero team has the best-selling comic of all time?
▼
Correct Answer: X-Men
(Source)"X-Men" #1 in 1991 sold over 8 million copies and still holds the Guinness World Record as the best-selling comic book issue ever. For all of the non-comic book fans out there, yes, Marvel has been publishing X-Men since 1963 (remember that for future trivia), but this is an industry where numbers don't matter and they'll reboot, retcon, and renumber things however or whenever they like. Anyways, Marvel hired superstar artist Jim Lee to relaunch the X-Men in their own series, separate from "Uncanny X-Men," and collectors were sent into a frenzy trying to grab all five cover variants. Some fans bought dozens of copies thinking they'd struck it rich, but considering everyone bought multiple copies, those 8 million comics are now worth about as much as the paper they're printed on. But hey, at least Wolverine and the gang earned their place in the record books.
