Who briefly replaced Steve Walsh in the band Kansas?

Kansas rode high on "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind," but by 1981 the band was dealing with serious creative tensions and Steve Walsh decided to walk away. Who briefly replaced Steve Walsh in the band Kansas?
▼
Correct Answer: John Elefante
(Source)Kansas faced the impossible task of replacing one of rock's most distinctive voices, so they held their own rock version of "American Idol." Over 200 singers showed up hoping to land the gig, including some pretty huge names like Sammy Hagar (who would later front Van Halen), Doug Pinnick from King's X, and Ted Neeley, who had literally played Jesus Christ in the "Jesus Christ Superstar" movie. Instead of going with any of these pros, Kansas picked 23-year-old John Elefante, who was fronting his family band. Even Kerry Livgren later admitted that Elefante was very inexperienced, but they stuck with him through two albums before the band split in 1984.
