Scarlett Johansson Becomes Top-Grossing Star After "Jurassic World: Rebirth"
What do you get when a Marvel mainstay leaps into dinosaur country? A record-shattering $14.8 billion career haul and the crown of highest-grossing lead actor ever.
Universal’s gamble to cast her as mercenary-paleontologist Zora Bennett injected fresh star power into the seventh “Jurassic” entry. The hype helped “Jurassic World Rebirth” stampede out of the gate with a $318 million opening weekend, vaulting Johansson past Samuel L. Jackson ($14.6 billion) and Robert Downey Jr. ($14.3 billion). The feat also makes her the first woman to top the modern chart.
The foundation of that record was poured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Eight turns as Natasha Romanoff across the MCU's "Infinity Saga" still make up the bulk of her total. Plus, her solo fares such as “Lucy” and voice roles in “Sing” and "The Jungle Book" also showed strong returns at the box office.
Analysts warn the title is a revolving seat in today’s mega-franchise era. Zoe Saldaña ($14.2 billion) returns later this year in James Cameron’s “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” while Downey is back in armor for Marvel’s 2026 “Doctor Doom” arc and either could reclaim the summit with a single mega-opening. Still, Johansson’s runway looks clear and the queen of the multiplex is waving a raptor claw at anyone that tries to pass her.
