I.
Birthdays of honor: Chaka Khan (1953), Victoria Pedretti (1995), Randall Park (1974), Akira Kurosawa (1910), Moses Malone (1955), Joan Crawford (1904), Damon Albarn (1968), Richard Grieco (1965).
II.
Pretty Woman was released in 1990, ushering in the saying, "it's the 90s!" to explain all that came after. And Police Academy inspired kids to start making sound effects with their mouths in 1984.
III.
In 1992 Billy Ray Cyrus released his version of "Achy Breaky Heart," peaking at no. 4 in the U.S. as a crossover hit.
IV.
Elizabeth Taylor passed away in 2011.
V.
The Police Academy series returned and showed its dominance as Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach, topped the box office on this day in 1988.
