30 years ago TODAY, the cable channel that turned reruns into comfort food arrived when "TV Land" launched in 1996!

Spun off from Nick at Nite, TV Land was the 24/7 home for classic sitcoms and dramas, with "I Love Lucy," "The Andy Griffith Show," and "Mary Tyler Moore" leading the early lineup. The vintage commercials it played between shows became a signature of the channel itself. TV Land launched the TV Land Awards in 2003 and later expanded into originals with hits like "Hot in Cleveland" and "Younger."

People like to say that Seinfeld is a show about nothing — but those are the people who didn't experience the TV event of the year — nay, the decade — when we found out that not only did Kramer have a first name, but it would be revealed in an upcoming episode.
