Intellivision launched in 1979 as the fancier alternative to Atari, complete with better graphics and a controller that looked like it belonged in a NASA control room. Kids spent more time fumbling with those disc controllers and swapping game overlays than actually playing.

57 years ago TODAY, rock and roll’s original king plugged back in when “Elvis” premiered on NBC in 1968!
After a long stretch of movie-soundtrack years, the special dropped him back into raw live performance, mixing loose sit-down jams with big production numbers and closing on “If I Can Dream” as his answer to the chaos of 1968. The broadcast pulled huge ratings, reset him as a serious performer instead of just a film star, and lit the fuse for his late 60s and 70s run of hit records and sold-out Vegas shows.
