Which major Hollywood star was NOT considered for the lead role in "The Mummy"?

Oscar Schmoscar, we all know Brendan Fraser’s most iconic role was in 1992’s Encino Man. But I suppose there’s an argument to be made that 1999’s The Mummy was more successful, considering it earned over $417 million at the box office.
It’s hard to believe it’s been a quarter of a century since Fraser portrayed the bumbling yet tough adventurer Rick O'Connell in a remake of a 1932 film of the same name, which also marked a breakthrough for Rachel Weisz.
For what seems like a fairly straightforward action film, development took many years with multiple directors cycling through before they finally landed on a production team that would complete the movie. And the casting of Fraser was complicated too, with several other stars considered for the lead role before he was offered it. There were so many actors considered, it’s easier to talk about who wasn’t up for the part.

Correct Answer: George Clooney
The answer is: George Clooney. Before giving the part of Rick O’Connell to Brendan Fraser, filmmakers considered all kinds of major stars including Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Brad Pitt. Although Tom Cruise lost the role to Brendan Fraser in 1999, he would later go on to star in a reboot of the franchise in 2017.Source
