Correct Answer: 1
(Source)The Grammys might have its fingers on the pulse of America's music industry, but that doesn't mean it can detect a heartbeat. The Best Disco Recording award was announced in 1979, right as the disco backlash struck and gave DJs everywhere whiplash. The Disco Demolition Night in July 1979 was seen as the turning point, and a rapid decline soon followed. At the 22nd Grammy Awards in 1980, Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" beat out "Boogie Wonderland," Da Ya Think I'm Sexy," "Bad Girls," and "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" to become the first and ONLY winner of the disco category as the academy announced they were eliminating it. The Recording Academy clearly didn't understand the message of Gaynor's song.
