Barbie has been everything from an astronaut to a zoologist, with some editions becoming collector's items and others gathering dust on shelves. But one particular version sparked such a craze that it sold over 10 million units worldwide. Which special edition Barbie reigns supreme as the all-time bestseller?

The answer is: Totally Hair Barbie
Mattel saw the writing on the wall and created a Barbie that turned the volume up to eleven (technically 11.5, since that's how many inches of hair they gave her). Totally Hair Barbie strutted onto shelves in 1992 with a magnificent mane that reached her toes, making Rapunzel look like she was rocking a pixie cut.
The commercial was pure '90s magic, featuring the earworm jingle "Totally hot, totally cool, totally hair Barbie!" that had parents around the world humming it against their will. Each doll came packaged with Dep gel (because what else would you use in 1992?) so kids could style to their hearts' content. Braids? Sure. Crimping? Absolutely. Ponytails that could double as jump ropes? Why not!
The doll sold over 10 million units worldwide, crushing sales records and becoming the best-selling fashion doll ever. Mattel tried to replicate the success with other super-long-hair variants throughout the '90s, but lightning only struck once. Today, mint-condition Totally Hair Barbies are hot items with collectors, probably because so few survived their original owners' creative haircare experiments intact.
