What is the highest price ever paid for John Lennon’s hair?

Last updated: February 20, 2026

I get autographs. I get guitars. I will never understand bidding on another person's hair. Beatlemania turned everything the Fab Four touched (or grew) into gold, and locks of John Lennon's hair have been auctioned off multiple times. What is the highest price ever paid for John Lennon's hair?

Correct Answer: $48,000

Betty Glasow was the hairdresser on "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help!" and Lennon gave her some of his hair wrapped inside his book "A Spaniard in the Works" with the inscription "Dear Betty lots of love and hair from John Lennon x x." In 2007, she decided it was time to release the locks to the fans (specifically the weird, rich ones) and it fetched $48,000. The pre-sale estimate was only $6,200, but a bidding war broke out between potential buyers from America, Spain, and England. Again, rich and weird people.

Glasow also kept grooming secrets for decades. George had such a dry scalp he once signed a photo "George 'Dandruff' Harrison." I can't believe that's a piece of memorabilia that can pay my rent.
