Some guitarists dream of hitting it big with face-melting solos and arena-shaking power chords, but one funk-obsessed musician from New York had a different vision. He teamed up with bassist Bernard Edwards to form Chic, one of disco's most influential bands that would go on to define an entire era with their signature rhythmic guitar style and infectious grooves. Which famous guitarist co-founded Chic?
▼
Correct Answer: Nile Rodgers
(Source)Nile Rodgers co-founded Chic because he wanted to create music that made people move, think less, and dance more. Rodgers had been grinding through the New York music scene for years, playing everything from Apollo Theater gigs to backing up the Sesame Street touring show. He and Edwards were working together as the Big Apple Band when another Big Apple Band suddenly hit it big with a disco version of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Rather than fight over the name, Rodgers and Edwards decided to start fresh and called themselves Chic. The new name came with a new attitude, and their style and sophistication worked better than anyone expected. Their 1978 single "Le Freak" became a monster hit that sold over seven million copies and gave Atlantic Records their first-ever triple platinum single.
