Which Frank Sinatra film inspired Nancy Sinatra's song "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'"?

Last updated: December 16, 2025

I bet just from the title, you're already hearing the opening guitar riff and tambourine beat. You know Nancy Sinatra is about to tell someone off in those go-go boots. The song was written for her, and not like, "Oh it was written with her in mind." I mean it was written specifically for her because the title was inspired by a line from her dad, Frank Sinatra, in one of his '60s flicks. Which Frank Sinatra film inspired Nancy Sinatra's song "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'"?

Correct Answer: 4 for Texas

Before Nancy Sinatra's feminist anthem topped the charts in 1966, her dad starred alongside Dean Martin in the critically panned "4 for Texas." The movie is barely worth talking about (unless you need to see Frank Sinatra in a saloon), but in it, Ol' Blue Eyes delivered the line, "They tell me them boots ain't built for walkin'." Songwriter Lee Hazlewood took the line and turned it into "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" for Nancy Sinatra. It was an instant commercial and critical hit, selling over a million copies and earning three Grammy nominations (and kicking off a go-go boots craze). Years later, Nancy Sinatra said that she regretted how the song made people think she wasn't a giant softie. I get it, but "These Boots Are Made for Cozy Nights In" probably wouldn't have gone gold.
