Giant snakes are one of the few things that make even Indiana Jones sweat, and there's a whole world of slithering serpents vying for the title of nature's ultimate measuring tape with fangs. From ancient fossils that make today's giants look like garden hoses to living legends that can literally swallow a deer whole, the snake kingdom has produced some serious contenders. Which snake species currently holds the crown as the longest?
▼
Correct Answer: Reticulated Python
(Source)The reticulated python wins this contest hands down, and these Southeast Asian monsters are what happens when a fire hose decides to become a predator. They regularly hit the 20-foot mark and keep going, with some specimens allegedly reaching school bus lengths. Despite their length, they're relatively lean, and green anacondas keep them from also holding the heaviest snake crown. The record holder is a snake cleverly named Medusa who tipped the scales at 350 pounds and stretched out to about 25 feet of pure "nope," but some unverified sightings claim lengths up to 32 feet!
