Look, I understand why Disney is leaning into its IP at the parks, and I even like a lot of it — but I still yearn for the good ol’ days when a fun, new idea could become an iconic attraction in its own right.

Pirates of the Caribbean first opened in 1967 inside Disneyland and became so beloved that they had to add it to Disney World in 1973. And unlike every other attraction opening at a Disney park in recent memory, it had a movie based on it instead of the other way around.

If you’re on the Disneyland version, you get to sit, rest, and be transported for a full 15 minutes and 30 seconds. That’s some serious bang for your buck.

A major reason we all love this ride so much is thanks to the soundtrack — namely, a drunken shanty sung by pirates and ne’er do wells in a port somewhere in the Caribbean. What’s the name of that song?
