It's hard to imagine a time when the world didn't stop completely just to see what Doritos will do for their next commercial, but there is indeed a threshold in time before which the Super Bowl was not played. Back then, people didn't even reference the game's viewership — in fact, it took some time before the Super Bowl started to do better than regular TV shows.
But two teams bravely stepped up to be the first to play the biggest game of the year in American sports. Which ones were they?
