Who shot John Lennon?

Born on October 9th, 1940, we probably really don’t need to explain much about John Lennon to you. He was in the Beatles, a monumental cultural force, an artist, an all-time great songwriter, and so much more.
But it’s hard not to think about all that Lennon could have still given the world had he not died in such a tragic fashion. Well over 40 years later, it’s still kind of a shock to even think about it. One of the coolest parts in the movie Yesterday is when the lead character visits a still-alive and aging John Lennon, who ends up spending his life as a little-known artist.
He was shot outside of the Dakota in New York City at close range, and the world began mourning John Lennon on December 8th, 1980. Who pulled the trigger on that tragic day?
