New bricks light up and make noise on their own now, which would've blown my eight-year-old mind. I was out there holding a flashlight at weird angles, doing laser sounds with my mouth, acting as my own entire post-production crew. The production value was not great.

48 years ago TODAY, we got a glimpse at the weirdest vacation check-in on TV when “Fantasy Island” premiered on ABC in 1978!

Ricardo Montalbán’s Mr. Roarke welcomed guests in that white suit and promised their dream fantasy “for a price,” which usually meant a twist and a lesson you didn’t ask for. Hervé Villechaize’s Tattoo made sure you knew there was a new arrival from “De plane! De plane!” It ran for seven celebrity-packed seasons, plus two TV movies that set the table for the series.
