He adapted all 65 episodes himself from his short fiction, and the anthology featured heavyweight casts, including Peter O'Toole, William Shatner, Drew Barrymore, and Jeff Goldblum, across six seasons on HBO and USA Network.

The mid-1970s were peak crossover time for country music, six songs topped both the country charts and Hot 100 in 1975.
