"Empty Nest" is a spin-off of which show?

When NBC first told "The Golden Girls" creator Susan Harris that they wanted a spin-off, she had a very different idea in mind. "Empty Nests" was the season two finale of "The Golden Girls" and featured Paul Dooley and Rita Moreno as a married couple dealing with their newfound freedom after their kids left home. It was terrible. The studio hated it, the audience hated it, even the cast hated it, with Moreno herself calling it a bad show. It currently sits as the show's lowest-rated episode on IMDb with a 3.7/10 (second place is at 6.2/10). NBC and Harris scrapped everything except "doctor who lives near Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia, and Rose" and actor David Leisure, who played a neighbor in both iterations. The revamped version premiered in 1988 right after "The Golden Girls" on Saturday nights and became an instant hit, eventually pulling in more viewers than its parent show. With neurotic divorcée Carol and tough-as-nails police officer Barbara crashing back into the family nest, Harry found himself dealing with a house that was anything but empty, plus a scene-stealing St. Bernard named Dreyfuss. The two series shared the same Miami setting and characters regularly crossed between them, with all four Golden Girls making guest appearances as their original characters throughout the show's run.
