TV has no shortage of odd pairings (Oscar and Felix, Mork and Mindy, Lucy and Ethel, all of the Golden Girls). It's a trope as old as old as TV comedies themselves, but "Perfect Strangers" really pushed that idea pretty far. The '80's sitcom paired a simple American bachelor, Larry, with his distant (and I mean VERY distant) cousin, Balki, from the Mediterranean island of Mypos. What city did these mismatched cousins call home?

"Perfect Strangers" was set in Chicago, where Larry had just started his life as a single bachelor living alone when Balki came to his door. And in "things that wouldn't ever happen today but seemed more normal back then," Larry let a complete stranger into his apartment and let him have the couch. Balki's charming chaos and Larry's absolute ambition ended up being the perfect pairing and the show was a hit. The show actually filmed in Los Angeles, but the creators picked Chicago as since it was a big city that hadn't been overused yet.
