What group is officially credited for "The Super Bowl Shuffle"?

Last updated: January 25, 2024

The tradition of sports teams singing songs is not necessarily large, but it certainly does exist. As far back as the 1870s, the Cincinnati Red Stockings, who also happened to be the first pro baseball team, were known to sing a song to spectators before games.

The song began, "We are a band of baseball players / From Cincinnati city..."

So when the 1985 Chicago Bears signed up to do a rap song over 100 years later, they were definitely in good company — and the lyrics for "The Super Bowl Shuffle" even have the same vibe.

On January 26, 1986, the Chicago Bears beat the New England Patriots 46-10 to take the crown at Super Bowl XX — which was probably a relief for a lot of the team, because they had already released the song back in December of '85.

In fact, they recorded the song the day after their only loss of that season (to the Miami Dolphins). A few players sat out because it seemed, well, pretty arrogant —which it was! They could have not even made it to the Super Bowl for crying out loud.

Instead, they had a bonafide hit, selling hundreds of thousands of copies and reaching no. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100.

But what was the name of the group the song was actually credited to upon release?

The answer is: Chicago Bears Shufflin' Crew. If you're going to be singing about and actually doing a shuffle, AND you're a member of the Chicago Bears, there's really no way to be more clear about it in your band name. Sadly, no other songs were released under this group's name.Source
