What is Mario's full name?

Mario's last name has never been spoken in a mainline Nintendo game, which gave the 1993 "Super Mario Bros." movie a chance to fill in the blank. The screenwriters figured that since they're the "Mario Bros.," their last name must be Mario. It's the type of logic you'd expect from a movie that bombed at the box office. Creator Shigeru Miyamoto laughed it off as ridiculous, and for years Nintendo's official stance was that Mario simply doesn't have a last name.
