Zemeckis and Tom Hanks had so much faith in the film's success they both negotiated for a share of gross receipts instead of an upfront salary and earned over $40 million each. But it wasn't just a money printing machine, it earned 13 Oscar nominations and won six of them including Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Picture.
