What main character died less than halfway through the movie?
I get it — to make a movie exciting, the stakes need to be high. When anyone can just come back at any time (**cough cough** Palpatine **cough**), it takes away from the levity of the story, and frankly the entire experience.
But in some cases, folks can go a little overboard. Whether it's The Walking Dead playing "how far can we push this" or the inevitable parent dying in any given Disney movie, character deaths are sometimes just stupid.
That was definitely the case in this film. Which of these beloved characters died less than halfway through the movie?

The answer is: Optimus Prime. Imagine the hype when Transformers: The Movie came out in 1986. An already successful cartoon with an immensely popular toy line, plus a song from Weird Al!Like the cartoon, the movie opened with some solid action between the Transformers and Decepticons. But unlike the cartoon, there's immediate death. And a bit later, the unthinkable happens — Optimus Prime himself, the main character and main toy, passes away following a battle with Megatron. And there's still most of the movie to go! All so Hasbro could release some new toys.Optimus has gone on to die and come back many times in many iterations since then, but that hasn't erased the initial trauma.Source
