We all complained about commercials at the time, but now that they’re gone I think I kind of miss them. The over-the-top acting and blatant lies about the product were sometimes better than whatever trash we were watching. This was when marketers were willing to throw everything at the wall to see what stuck.
Now, except for maybe the Super Bowl, no one is watching live TV with commercials anymore. It’s all streaming that either has no ads or some boring insurance ones. I can’t remember the last time I saw a toy ad, which ticks me off because I’m finally an adult and no one can stop me from buying them!
While I might never know the last toy advertised on TV, we do know the first. Love them or hate them, all those dramatic and unrealistic toy commercials stemmed from this simple toy on an old black and white screen.

Correct Answer: Mr. Potato Head
The answer is: Mr. Potato Head. Remember the days when you would see an ad for a toy on TV and relentlessly bug your parents until they bought it for you? Well, that all started with Mr. Potato Head. The first time any toy got an ad on TV was in 1952 when Hasbro saw this budding medium as a great way to advertise to kids and started a wave of other toy makers following suit.Source
