(Source)Screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin originally envisioned Molly as a wood sculptor, but wet clay is a lot sexier than sawdust. The scene was so effective that they actually cut a sex scene from the movie because after watching them play with clay, what more could you possibly want? The only unrealistic thing (ignoring the whole plot about being a ghost) was that Molly wasn't upset when her pottery was ruined.
