What's the name of the town in "Jaws"?

You know what ticks me off? Great white sharks who don’t give a damn about the local economy and scare all the tourists away from the beach. "Jaws" is the film that put a young Steven Spielberg on the map, and terrified a lot of kids into not bathing for weeks. It takes place in a quaint, small summer town on the shores of (recently) shark-infested waters. What was the name of that town?

Correct Answer: Amity Island
(Source)Amity is both another word for friendship and the name of the fictional town where Chief Brody solves his shark problems with large-scale explosions. Spielberg shot the movie on Martha's Vineyard, a town that's not exactly known for its shark sightings, let alone attacks. Locals were so excited about the production that the guy playing the fisherman who finds the first victim was actually the real harbormaster, and the woman who slaps Chief Brody was a local who just happened to have the perfect angry mom energy they needed. The island's fancy yacht club members were initially horrified that Hollywood was going to make their exclusive summer retreat look like a shark's takeout menu, but they changed their tune pretty quickly when the movie turned Martha's Vineyard into one of the most famous vacation spots in America.
