Look, web-slinging around New York doesn't exactly come with a paycheck. That's why Peter Parker sells photos of himself in action to pay for his crummy apartment. Between dodging supervillains and meeting rent, Parker has to deal with a newspaper editor who screams about deadlines and Spider-Man in the same breath. Which media mogul holds the purse strings to Parker's photography career?
▼
The answer is: J. Jonah Jameson
J. Jonah Jameson runs "The Daily Bugle" like a walking megaphone of rage, complete with a flat-top haircut and that famous mustache. He's the guy who keeps Spider-Man in business by buying Peter Parker's impossible-to-get photos while simultaneously trying to convince New York that Spider-Man is public enemy number one.
What makes JJJ fantastic is his complete dedication to this crusade. The guy once spent a fortune creating a supervillain called the Scorpion specifically to fight Spider-Man. When that completely backfired, he funded a bunch of Spider-Slayer robots instead. And yet he never notices that his best Spider-Man photographer always gets angles that seem physically impossible to capture.
While movie fans know Jameson as Spider-Man's eternal critic, comic readers have seen a different side of him. After Peter Parker finally revealed his identity to the world, Jameson actually became one of Spider-Man's biggest supporters. Though movie Jameson hasn't made this journey yet, keeping his role as everyone's favorite loud-mouthed newspaper boss who's convinced Spider-Man is ruining his city.
