Who sings the disco hit "Ring My Bell"?

The night disco officially died, the number one song in America was a barely-disguised ode to something that was definitely not a phone call. "Ring My Bell" topped the Hot 100, the UK charts, and pretty much every disco chart in existence in 1979. Who recorded it?
▼
Correct Answer: Anita Ward
(Source)A Memphis substitute teacher was grading papers when she got the call that her recording went gold. Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" went to number one so quickly that she hadn't even gotten a chance to go to a disco before becoming a disco queen herself. The song was originally written as a wholesome song about kids talking on the phone, but when the producer got hold of Ward, he tweaked the lyrics and made them more... adult. Ward always insisted the lyrics were completely innocent, nothing you'd be ashamed of in front of your kids, which is exactly what you'd expect a teacher to say.
