Singer Rebbie Jackson (1950) is the oldest of the Jackson siblings, and her biggest hit came when her brother Michael wrote and produced "Centipede" for her debut album. She kept recording through "Reaction" and "R U Tuff Enuff" and sang on her brothers' family single "2300 Jackson Street."

Composer Danny Elfman (1953) sang lead for the new wave band Oingo Boingo before becoming Tim Burton's go-to composer on "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," "Beetlejuice," "Batman," and "Edward Scissorhands." He wrote the theme you can hum from "The Simpsons" and sang Jack Skellington's pipes in "The Nightmare Before Christmas."

Singer La Toya Jackson (1956) made her name as a Jackson and a solo act, posed for Playboy, and wrote the best-selling tell-all "La Toya: Growing Up in the Jackson Family." She popped back up as a reality-TV contestant on Britain's "Celebrity Big Brother" and NBC's "The Celebrity Apprentice."

Actress Annette Bening (1958) picked up her first Oscar nomination as a con artist in "The Grifters" and took home a BAFTA for "American Beauty." She has been nominated for an Oscar five times without winning, including later nominations for "The Kids Are All Right" and "Nyad," and she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in "Captain Marvel."

Singer Melissa Etheridge (1961) broke big with the six-times-platinum album "Yes I Am" and its Top 40 hits "I'm the Only One" and "Come to My Window," which won her a Grammy. She took home the Oscar for Best Original Song for "I Need to Wake Up" from the climate-change documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

Actress Laverne Cox (1972) became the first transgender person nominated for a Primetime Emmy in an acting category, for playing Sophia Burset on "Orange Is the New Black." She slipped into the fishnets as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" remake and has since turned up in "Promising Young Woman" and "Inventing Anna."

Singer Mel B (1975) sang as Scary Spice on the Spice Girls' smash "Wannabe" and helped make them the best-selling girl group in history. She topped the UK chart with her solo debut "I Want You Back" and later spent years judging "America's Got Talent."
