Bassist Robert "Kool" Bell (1950) co-founded Kool & the Gang and thumped out the bass on "Jungle Boogie" and "Celebration." He happened to be at his label's London office the day Band Aid was proposed, wound up singing on "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and went into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his bandmates.
Singer-songwriter Bruno Mars (1985) worked Waikiki as a pint-sized Elvis impersonator, topped the Hot 100 with "Just the Way You Are" and took Album of the Year for "24K Magic." He grabbed another Grammy for "Die with a Smile" and sent "The Romantic" to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this year.
