Concerning underlying issues of the characters notwithstanding, Cheers remains one of the most beloved sitcoms ever produced and still acts as a well that new shows can pull from (with a Frasier reboot coming out soon).
Carla's no-nonsense attitude helped to balance the shenanigans of the rest of the crew — perhaps in part because she honed her B.S. meter dealing with kids at home. And as the show went on she added to her brood.
