
When it comes to the ocean's most fascinating creatures, octopuses are always at the top of my list. With their Houdini-like escapes and mind-boggling intelligence, they're like underwater X-men. Underneath that (I’m assuming) slimy skin, these guys also have a seriously unique feature that sets them apart from the rest of the aquatic world. How many hearts does an octopus need to power all of their superpowers?

Octopuses are equipped with not one, not two, but three hearts. Two of these hearts are dedicated to pumping blood to their gills, ensuring that these underwater acrobats can breathe easy. The third heart, however, is responsible for circulating oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. Interestingly, this third heart takes a break when an octopus decides to swim, which might explain their preference for crawling over swimming.
