(Source)"Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" walked away with 5 Oscars out of 13 nominations, including Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Black and White Art Direction, and Best Costume Design, but somehow lost Best Picture. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were at the height of their tabloid fame, playing a married couple who destroy each other with words while their house guests watch in horror. For Taylor, this was her second Oscar but the first that she felt she really earned, having previously won for "Butterfield 8" after a pneumonia scare. The movie itself was so controversial it helped end Hollywood's decades-old censorship code and was easily the most talked-about film of the year.
