The Academy only nominated Alfred Hitchcock five measly times for Best Director, and horrifyingly never gave him the award. The man who gave us "Psycho," "Vertigo," "North by Northwest," "Rear Window," and countless other masterpieces basically got snubbed his entire career. When they finally handed him a Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1967, he walked up to the podium, said "Thank you," paused for a moment (to build suspense obviously), and finished with "very much indeed" before walking off.
